Vintage-Inspired Kitchen Remodel
Greenfield, Massachusetts
A Charming & Colorful Local Remodel with Mid-Century Flair
We recently wrapped up a vintage-inspired kitchen remodel for a talented young couple—and their adorable black labradoodle, Lola. This project was all about blending vintage charm with modern functionality. We focused on the base cabinetry, designing and building exposed-edge plywood cabinets in our custom Cranberry finish.
The new cabinets were made from maple veneer plywood and hand-finished in our shop. Our Cranberry color is a custom blend of Osmo wood waxes. It’s soft, durable, and brings warmth and personality to the space without overpowering it.
The couple chose to keep their original mid-century upper cabinets. Instead of replacing them, they gave them a fresh coat of creamy white paint. This kept some of the home’s history intact while creating a fun, color-blocked look with the deep red base cabinets below. To tie the old and new elements together, they used satin brass knobs throughout the kitchen. That one detail helped everything feel cohesive and intentional.
Thoughtful Details That Tie Everything Together
Additional touches brought even more personality into the room. A floral William Morris Fruit Wallpaper adds a vintage feel, wrapping the space in charm. On the floor, Fireclay Tile in a checkerboard pattern—Carmine Satin and Flake White Satin—gives the room movement and a sense of playfulness.
One of the most personal features in the room is the backsplash behind the range. EJ, one of the homeowners, designed the tile layout themselves. Inspired by antique Delft tiles, the pattern tells a story and adds a one-of-a-kind, artistic element to the space. This custom piece now acts as a focal point, framed by curated kitchen tools and brass accessories.
We kept the existing kitchen layout but added smart storage upgrades. Interior pullouts and organizers help keep everything in reach—especially helpful for Michelle, who works as a professional butcher. Function mattered just as much as looks in this project. The cabinets may look minimal, but they’re built to support serious daily use.
Our birch plywood cabinetry is strong and practical. The exposed edges add a clean, modern detail that plays nicely with the vintage elements already in the home. Now that this vintage-inspired kitchen remodel is complete, the space feels colorful, lived-in, and full of personality. It’s a space designed to be used, but also to be enjoyed!
