Our Materials

We know that kitchens are a big investment. That’s why we build our kitchen cabinets to last a lifetime and aim to reduce waste at the same time. We believe in using the best materials in an honest way. Our cabinetry is built with premium veneer-core plywood, high quality Blum® hardware, and hardwood pull-outs and inserts. These are products that you will use dozens of times a day, so we want to ensure that they perform as well as they look.

We have carefully selected a range of innovative plywood products, including Garnica® which is made from fast growing tree species (such as eucalyptus and poplar) both of which sequester above average amounts of carbon. Our other favorite plywood product, Europly®, has a solid baltic birch core and a range of high quality veneers. All of our wood products are formaldehyde-free and sourced from sustainably managed forests. ⁠We don’t use decorative moldings or edge-banding, and instead choose to highlight the gorgeous layers of our plywood cores.

We also use Medex®, a strong and water-resistant MDF made from 92% pre-consumer recycled wood content, milled in upstate Washington.

Cabinets are made without edge banding, and designed to show off the beautiful edges of our high-quality plywood cases and fronts. The cabinet on the left shows a clear-coated maple veneer finish, while the cabinet on the right is our Turmeric custom color finish over Medex.

Finishes

Hand-finished Wood Wax Over Plywood and Medex® MDF

Osmo® wood wax is our go-to finish for cabinet fronts. We use it as a clear-coat, whitewash, and in a variety of custom colors. Osmo® wood wax is derived from linseed, thistle, soy & sunflower oils, as opposed to petroleum found in typical paint products. This finish shows the grain of the plywood and has a lovely matte feel. Osmo® finishes are non-toxic, super durable, easily cleaned, and safe for the environment. We use this finish over plywood or Medex®. Each has it's own distinctive look and texture.

Fenix® Laminate Over Plywood

Laminate fronts are a classic, durable choice for a clean and modern kitchen. We searched high and low for our favorite laminate product and were thrilled when we found Fenix®. Fenix® is an Italian laminate that is scratch resistant, anti-microbial, matte, and feels soft to the touch. Plus it comes in a range of beautiful, muted colors. We leave the plywood edges of our cabinets exposed when we build a laminate kitchen, which adds some warmth to this sleek and beautiful product.
