Our Process

You've taken the first step toward beautiful, custom plywood cabinetry designed specifically for your space! From here, we will move together through each stage: refining your design, reserving your spot in our production schedule, planning for delivery and installation with your construction team, and delivering fully assembled cabinets ready for installation. This page gives you a clear picture of what's ahead, what we'll need from you along the way, and how to set your project up for success. Read more about our process below.

Every Boxco project is custom, but the path is the same for everyone. It moves through these stages:

Discover

Before any design work begins, we'll gather some information about your project, your space, and how you hope to use it. Then we'll share initial pricing so you have a realistic sense of the investment from the very start. For most projects that's a ballpark range; if you already have a complete drawing set, we can often provide a more detailed quote up front. To get started, please fill out our Estimate Form and include a dimensioned floor plan, photos of your space, and any sketches or reference images.  If you have any questions or need more information before we begin, feel free to email us at sales@boxco.studio or book a 15 minute intro call.

Not sure when to reach out? We recommend starting the process with us 6 to 8 months before you’d like your cabinets delivered.

Design

This is where your vision takes shape. You'll work one-on-one with your designer, in person or over video, making changes in real time. Your design includes up to three meetings and three sets of revised drawings. At Boxco Studio we love design, and integrating our unique cabinetry into your unique space, so this process is at the heart of what we do.

If you’re local, we’d love for you to visit our studio to see our cabinetry and finishes in person. If you’re from out of town, we’re happy to send you samples!

Reserve

When you're ready to move forward, a 50% production deposit and a signed agreement secure your place on our build calendar. We'll also need your contractor's contact information and construction timeline so we can target a delivery window that works for your project. We recommend reserving as soon as your timeline is clear — spots fill quickly and we can't hold one without a deposit.

Finalize (12 Weeks Before Delivery)

This is the milestone that locks everything in. You'll review and sign off on your final drawings and final price — after this point, your cost is fixed and we order materials.  A few weeks later, at the six-week mark, we'll need final site measurements from your installer. Minor adjustments are free; anything beyond that becomes a change order.

Build

Your cabinetry is made to order in our Greenfield workshop — cut, assembled, finished, and quality-checked by hand before it ever leaves our shop. We build with premium veneer core plywood and finish with Osmo wood wax, a plant-based finish applied by hand. Two weeks before your delivery date, we'll ask for site photos to confirm everything is ready, and issue your final invoice at that time.

Install

Your cabinets arrive fully assembled, ready to be installed. We strongly recommend working with a Boxco Studio installer — proper installation is essential to the long-term performance and warranty coverage of your cabinetry. If you prefer your own installer, they'll need to review our Installation Guide and complete a brief video call with our Installation Expert before delivery. Cabinets should be installed within 90 days of delivery and stored in a climate-controlled environment in the meantime.

Enjoy

Your cabinetry is built to be used, loved and lived in every day. Plywood is a remarkably durable material, and your Osmo finish is designed to hold up beautifully over time. If anything ever needs attention, we stand behind our work with a 10-year limited warranty. We're always happy to hear how your project turned out — and even happier to see photos.

A Note About How We Work

We're a small, close-knit team, and we thoughtfully design and build every piece by hand to live in your home for decades. We believe true craftsmanship takes time, and that the best pieces are made by people who love the work and have the time to do it well.

This belief is why we've stayed small on purpose. It keeps us close to the work and to each other. We aim to answer emails within 48 hours, and drawings and quotes typically turn around in 5–10 days. If you ever need a replacement piece down the road, we'll work it into our production schedule and keep you posted on timing.
