A Serene Farmhouse Kitchen: MCM Colorful Cabinets in South Hadley, MA
This South Hadley homestead kitchen blends color, warmth, and modern function—set against the quiet beauty of their peaceful farm. Horses graze outside the windows, and the smell of lilacs fills the spring air. We teamed up with Valley Home Improvement and designer Mary Moore to reimagine the space. Jodi and Batya wanted a kitchen that felt fresh, useful, and peaceful. As a result, we designed a mix of MCM colorful cabinets and soft natural finishes.
They chose our custom Mallow Flower wood wax for the tall maple plywood cabinets. These purple-toned pantry cabinets offer deep pullouts and full-height storage. To add contrast, we used clear wood wax on maple veneer for the island and hutch. The combination keeps the room light while adding richness and personality.
To connect the kitchen with the dining area, we added tall midcentury modern cabinetry with exposed plywood edges. It’s practical, but also adds texture and warmth.
Throughout the space, the design feels thoughtful. Ceramics and artwork bring in color and meaning. Sunlight, quiet, and fresh air fill the room.
Most importantly, the kitchen works hard. Every drawer, pullout, and shelf was made with daily life in mind. It’s easy to keep things tidy, the finishes are durable, and the layout flows.
In the end, this project reflects its owners perfectly—colorful, grounded, and full of care. It’s a clear example of how mid century modern kitchen cabinets can feel both personal and timeless.
