Clean, Efficient, and Full of Personality: A Maple Plywood Kitchen in Katonah

When Laura, a professional interior photographer, and her partner Colin, owner of a local bike shop, began renovating their home in Katonah, NY, they had a clear vision. They wanted modern light wood cabinets—slab-front plywood with cut-out pulls. After reaching out to several cabinet companies who said “no”, they found Boxco!

We specialize in custom plywood cabinets and have spent years sourcing the best veneer plywood for slab fronts. We knew we could deliver exactly what they were looking for. The result is a kitchen that’s modern, clean, and built to last.

We used birch plywood cabinets with premium maple veneer, exposed edges and a durable clear coat. The light wood pairs beautifully with the black terrazzo countertop and matte Café appliances. These exposed-edge plywood cabinets bring warmth and texture, while the dark counter adds contrast and polish.

Touches of red and yellow throughout the space add fun pops of color. The warm tone of the modern light wood cabinets keeps everything feeling grounded. It’s a great balance—efficient and minimal, but not at all cold.

This kitchen feels rooted in MCM kitchen design—simple shapes, high-quality materials, and thoughtful functionality. Even in a small galley layout, the space feels open and inviting.

At Boxco, we’re passionate about building kitchens that blend warmth, craft, and clean design. If you’re drawn to modern kitchen cabinets with timeless character, we’d love to help bring your ideas to life.
