A Monochrome Kitchen with Warm Personality

When we set out to design a new kitchen for our home, we saw it as a chance to do something unexpected. We wanted to show what’s possible with modern plywood cabinetry—clean, functional, and full of personality. The concept? A monochrome kitchen that blends cabinet and countertop into one cohesive form. By matching the finish of our cabinets to the concrete countertops, we created a soft, sculptural look. The color we landed on—a dusty, salmon rose—is modern, unique, and warm. We custom-mixed it using Osmo’s primary hues and call it “Bubblegum.”

The cabinetry is built from birch plywood, with exposed edges and flat fronts for a clean, minimal look. Inside, smart storage makes the most of the space. There’s a pull-out tray under the wall oven for heavy appliances, a customized drawer dishwasher, and a narrow pull-out rack for spices and oils. These thoughtful touches reflect the heart of modern kitchen design—where beauty and utility meet.

We’ve always loved materials with natural texture. To bring in some contrast, we chose lime plaster for the walls. Its soft, cloudy finish adds quiet drama without overpowering the space. The result is a calm, grounded kitchen that feels both modern and warm.

This project reflects our passion for mixing eras and ideas. The design is rooted in Mid Century Modern kitchen design, but reinterpreted with color and simplicity. Our colorful cabinets lean into playfulness while maintaining a timeless feel. It’s a modern take on classic Scandinavian cabinetry—warm plywood, clean lines, and bold but balanced color.

Our team at Boxco Studio specializes in custom cabinets, especially for clients drawn to modern kitchen cabinets and midcentury-inspired design. If you’re imagining your own version of a monochrome kitchen—or a colorful spin on classic MCM kitchen design—we’d love to help bring it to life!
