Northampton Kitchen

Northampton, MA

This charming bitty house in Northampton, MA got a thoughtful midcentury kitchen upgrade. Our clients were looking for a design that felt fresh and functional but still aligned with the home’s cozy footprint. They landed on MCM laminate cabinets in a soft, muted green—a color that adds depth without overwhelming the compact space. Built from the highest quality plywood with exposed edges, these cabinets blend modern performance with mid-century-inspired style. From the start of the design process, every square inch was considered to ensure we maximized storage and usability without sacrificing aesthetics.

Because space was at a premium, we focused on creating clean lines and simplifying visual clutter. The matte finish of the Fenix laminate brings a calm, tactile quality to the room, and the choice of black pulls provides just enough contrast. The custom cabinetry anchors the kitchen, while the stunning soapstone countertops introduce an earthy texture that pairs beautifully with the natural wood floors. Above the counters, open shelving—crafted by the contractor—offers both display space and easy access to everyday essentials. The shelves are warm and grounded, helping to break up the cabinetry while adding a handcrafted touch.

Even in a small kitchen like this one, it’s possible to make bold design decisions that stand the test of time. These MCM laminate cabinets are more than just a design choice—they’re a high-performing, easy-to-maintain surface that fits beautifully into the rhythm of daily life. Combined with quality materials and thoughtful planning, this tiny kitchen now feels open, efficient, and full of character. It’s a great reminder that smart design doesn’t require a large footprint—just the right balance of function and personality.
