Birch Street Bungalow Kitchen
Greenfield, MA
The Birch Street Bungalow was a beautiful little house in need of love and care. Bungalows are characterized by big windows and high ceilings, which the clients – Hasso and Bob – fell in love with. However, they were hoping to modernize the floor plan, which was divided into a bunch of tiny rooms. As part of the gut remodel, the kitchen wall was taken down, and the living area was opened up into one generous light-filled space. This gave way for us to create the perfect, colorful plywood cabinets.
Hasso and Bob wanted a colorful kitchen that created a focal point in this new room. We also knew that the colors had to be timeless and gentle enough to create a calming presence – we didn’t want the color choices to feel overpowering. We decided to pair the custom lavender fronts with plywood cabinet fronts, and a bright, cheerful yellow concrete countertop. In order to integrate some more color into the space, we designed a bank of teal cabinets on the inside of the kitchen island. Seen only from this perspective, this pop of teal is a joyful surprise.
"After gutting an early 20th century bungalow in Western Massachusetts and creating a more open floor plan, we looked to install a colorful, contemporary kitchen. We chose Boxco because of their clean design aesthetic and attention to detail. In our search for a unique color palette, we worked closely with Gallagher to develop a lively, yet soothing combination of four different hues. The design process was always productive, professional and fun! If you are looking for high quality affordable, custom designed and constructed cabinetry, Boxco is a great choice!"
