How We Build
We take pride in our efficient and streamlined cabinetry-building process, which enables us to craft high-quality, customizable cabinets using the best materials available. Here's how we do it:
Design & Engineering
Our small team of designers and engineers utilize the most advanced software and digital tools available to power our entire process, from initial design to finished product. Our software enables us to rapidly design and customize a space, generate 3D renderings, and produce detailed shop drawings. It also allows us to customize each cabinet, down to the joinery, hardware, materials, and finishes.
Precision CNC Routing
Almost everything we create at Boxco Studio starts as a precisely cut part on our CNC router. When a project is ready for production, our software organizes all the parts by material type and nests them onto full sheets of plywood (imagine a winning game of Tetris). These nested patterns are then converted into programs and sent to the CNC for cutting. This process minimizes material waste and saves time because the machine cuts each component with incredible precision—even down to the smallest details, like finger pulls and holes for fasteners and hardware.
Sanding & Assembly
We have chosen the highest-quality materials available for their strength, durability, and beauty. We focus on enhancing and utilizing the inherent qualities of these materials rather than covering them with petroleum-based paints or finicky edge banding. Once the parts are cut, we carefully hand-sand each piece before assembling the cabinet boxes and finishing the faces. All edges are smoothed, and each corner is chamfered for a clean, carefully crafted feel. The hardware and hinges we use are top-of-the-line and soft-close. This meticulous process not only ensures structural integrity but also elevates the quality of our cabinetry, making the craftsmanship evident in the clean lines and authentic feel of our products.
Hand Finishing
We hand-finish our cabinet faces with wood wax finishes, available in a clear coat as well as a variety of colors. The waxes and oils in this product enhance the natural beauty of the plywood and provide a resilient, translucent color finish. Because each piece is hand-finished, subtle variations in the door fronts create an organic, warm feel that beautifully complements the clean simplicity of our cabinets.
If you're looking for an even more durable and sleek finish, we also offer laminate options.
Staging and Review
Our final step is to stage each kitchen in our shop. We carefully inspect the cabinetry to make sure everything is built exactly as designed and functions properly, adjusting doors and interior components for smooth performance. Our skilled team of cabinetmakers ensures that every detail meets our high standards of craftsmanship. Once everything checks out, we prepare the cabinets for delivery.
