Montague Homestead
Montague, MA
We installed this kitchen into a light filled 1970s contemporary house in Montague, MA. The clients were somewhat wary of modern kitchen cabinetry, their existing kitchen – original to the house – was glossy and soulless. However, modern cabinets fit the style of their house, and I was confident that we could design a beautiful modern-style kitchen for them that was also warm and inviting. To keep the space feeling open, bright and light, we built a kitchen with mostly clear-coated maple cabinetry, but we chose a barn red for the pantry wall and the island to introduce color and create a cozy nook for prepping and baking. The solid maple shelf, the handmade Fireclay tile, the Schoolhouse Electric hardware and the locally sourced Ashfield Stone countertops all ensure this kitchen has plenty of texture, warmth and soul. As farmers, homesteaders and passionate home-cooks, it was clear that these two needed a kitchen that would really worked for them. To meet this goal, we made sure that the design had plenty of countertop area, tons of storage, and a dedicated pantry space. We hope you like these warm, modern kitchen cabinets as much as we do!
