Design Process
We have a four part design process consisting of Planning, Refining, Ordering, and Receiving & Installing. Each part of the process is outlined here.
We love working collaboratively with other designers. We have a few different ways that we like to structure the design process with other professionals. We can work with you and your design team to figure out what process works best for you!
If you are local and we are able to install your kitchen (pending availability and schedule), we will take final measurements. Otherwise, we rely on your contractor, project manager, or trusted installer to provide us with accurate final measurements. In order to produce an estimate, all we need are basic dimensions which you can measure yourself. Here is a step-by-step guide to measuring your kitchen.
Yes, working directly with contractors is a great way to ensure that all measurements are accurate, that the timing of cabinet delivery works with the construction schedule, and the space is ready for cabinet installation.
Cabinets
We have carefully selected a range of innovative plywood materials for our cabinet boxes and fronts, most of which are made from fast growing tree species milled with renewable energy. All of our plywood is formaldehyde-free and sourced from sustainably managed forests.
Our cabinet boxes are built from high-quality, sustainable maple-faced plywood that has exceptional surface quality and great stability. Our cabinet fronts can be made from Europly, Medex (super-strength medium-density fiberboard) and laminated Baltic Birch.
We offer two different types of finishes:
- Wood-wax: Wood-wax finishes provide a semi-transparent, durable, matte finish and are made from natural oils. We offer a range of gorgeous custom colors, or if you'd like a natural wood look, we can do a clear coat.
- Laminate: We also make cabinets with laminated plywood fronts. We offer a selection of specialty laminates with nano-tech, antimicrobial, and scratch resistant properties. Laminate cabinet fronts are a classic, durable choice for a clean and modern kitchen. We leave the plywood edges of our cabinets exposed when we build a laminate kitchen, which adds warmth and texture to this solid, sleek surface.
We no longer make concrete countertops, but do offer laminated plywood counter options to our kitchen cabinetry clients. We also have a range of countertop materials samples in our studio for your reference when planning with us, and can help connect you to countertop makers and installers in New England.
Of course! If you are local, we encourage you to come visit our shop and showroom so you can see our materials in person. We can also send samples to you. Email info@boxco.studio for more information.
If you are a trade professional and are interested in a sample box, you can contact us at trade@boxco.studio.

In an energy intensive industry, we endeavor to think critically about our materials and methods, in order to reduce waste and care for our planet and for ourselves. We have carefully selected a range of innovative plywood materials for our cabinet boxes and fronts, most of which are made from fast growing tree species milled with renewable energy. Delivery & Installation
Once the 50% Production Payment has been made, we will provide a delivery date. As long as there is adequate time for production, we will work with you to ensure that the date coincides with your construction schedule. This delivery date is usually 8-12 weeks from the Production Payment. If you live within our delivery radius (see question above) we will deliver directly to you. If you are outside of this area, we will ship them via freight.
Unless your project is happening in stages, all of the cabinets will arrive at the same time.
Boxco installation usually takes from 3-10 business days based on the size of the project. We do install our own cabinets, but our schedule does tend to fill up quickly. We can also work with you and a contractor or installer of your choosing to make sure that our cabinetry is installed correctly.
Unless you are a professional installer, we recommend that you do not install your own cabinets.
Cabinets should be stored in a climate controlled space. This could be inside your house or in a climate controlled storage unit. Products not accepted within 7 days from the time the order is ready for delivery will be transferred to a warehouse for storage. You will be responsible for all costs and expenses incurred.
