Modern Red Kitchen Cabinets in a Warm, Light-Filled Montague Home
We installed this kitchen in a bright 1970s contemporary home in Montague, MA. The homeowners were unsure about modern cabinetry at first. Their original kitchen, untouched since the house was built, felt glossy and soulless. But the home’s architecture called for a clean, modern look. We knew we could design something that felt fresh and full of warmth. These modern red kitchen cabinets struck the perfect balance—contemporary yet cozy and welcoming.
To keep the space feeling open and airy, we used clear-coated maple cabinetry for most of the kitchen. We then introduced a barn red wood wax finish on the island and pantry wall, adding color, defining zones, and creating a warm nook for prepping and baking.
We layered in texture and soul with thoughtful material choices: a solid maple shelf, handmade Fireclay tile, Schoolhouse hardware, and locally sourced Ashfield Stone countertops. Each element helped the space feel grounded and inviting.
Our clients—farmers, homesteaders, and dedicated home cooks—needed a kitchen that could keep up with their lifestyle. We gave them generous countertop space, plenty of smart storage, and a walk-in pantry.
